Isfahan is an ancient city with a 5000 years old history and being centrally positioned it could be considered as the heart of Iran. In the 16th & 17th centuries, the heydays of Shah Abbas, Isfahan was considered as a paradise if art & beauty and it was during this period that the Isfahan carpets gained popularity and have been recognised as one of the best Persian rugs. The quality is very fine having high count of knots and is usually of woollen pile and silk warp. Patterns are numerous and very intricate and precise having designs of floral shapes with birds and medallians. The overall colours are pale ie beige, light blue and shades of reds.
